The Lies They Tell

America is a pathological liar. Like a true narcissist, what it says isn’t what is so.

Welcome to Points to Ponder with Saint Pierre. I am Saint Pierre. And verily, verily, I say to you that America is a pathological liar. Like a true narcissist, what it says isn't what it's so. America lies in several ways. Let us ponder this for a few. So imagine a blonde-haired, blue-eyed heterosexual couple living in this beautiful home, and they call this home their American dream. With an American flag flying high outside, they are cozy and comfortable inside. They wave and smile at the rest of the world as if all is well. They go to church every Sunday and they donate to the poor. But they do all this while secretly keeping a group of people held captive, tortured and starved in their basement. And Jesus comes knocking at that door and says, Hey, let my people go. The people you're holding captive in your basement, let them go. And this couple has the audacity to look Jesus dead in his face and lie. No one's in our basement. We are good people. We are good Christian people. See our flag flying out front? See the good work that we do? We would never hold people captive, especially in our own home. Oh, but the lies they tell. This is the truth about the United States of America. It wants everyone to believe there is nothing bad to see here. It minimizes any wrongdoings and it cleverly deceives the rest of the world with false narratives and rhetoric. Let us explore. Nothing to see here, huh? Nothing is wrong in America. All is well. That is the lie of omission because no nation is perfect, especially the good old US of A. So for it to claim that it is inherently good is a lie. It is far from good and much less great. Yet the US of A boasts about being the land of the free and the home of the brave. All lies. They teach and tell the story of Columbus and his cohorts and how they discovered America, settled here, and helped make it a great nation. But they don't tell of the slaughter and the murder of natives and of the land ravaged and stolen by the same. Probably one of the biggest lies of omission is that the Civil War was all about states' rights and freedoms. They don't tell you that the primary right they fought for was the right to own, sell, and torture humans as slaves. Americans hold in high esteem its constitution. But this is the same constitution that stated black people were three-fifths human. Now another great lie of omission is the idea that the US is a Christian nation. Christian where? They don't love their neighbor, they don't feed the poor, clothe the naked, and visit the prisoner, they don't welcome the stranger. Instead, they enact immigration laws to villainize and outcast strangers whom they call aliens. This group claims to respect the sanctity of life at conception and or in the womb, but as soon as the child is born into the world, their fervent protection dissipates. They fight to the death to prevent abortions of any kind, yet celebrate the death penalty for sentenced prisoners. They go to churches that puff up and encourage their supremacy complex, but their hearts are far from being Christlike. Yeah, America might be a beautiful home with a well manicured lawn, but baby, there are bodies in the basement. Now making small of a situation is technically the lie of minimization. America is skillful in this type of lie. For example, read any public school history book and you will find little to any facts about the contributions of people of color to the success of America. On the contrary, you will hear about the greatness of founding fathers, how inventions and technology came solely from the brilliance of white people and how they built this country alone. Let them tell it, people of color, especially black and Latino people, have done nothing for this country but be a hindrance to the advancement of white people. The devil is a liar. Only a devil would minimize the truth to promote a narrative that is not reality. Delusion thrives in dishonesty. And America's delusion is pathological because it even tries to diminish the work of God Himself as simply their own innate greatness. Really? Again, that devil is a liar. And the most destructive lie of them all is the lie of deception. This lie is one that is meant to entice you to believe or behave in a certain way to take advantage of you. Who uses lies of deception? Cult leaders, politicians, and used car salesmen come to mind. But for America, it is the idea that you can work hard to be anything you want to be. In reality, it is one man working hard his entire life to make another man rich. The capitalist system in America is designed in such a way that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. While dangling a carrot before the poor man, the rich man keeps the poor man working hard in hopes of getting that carrot one day. The lie becomes the lure that keeps the poor man dependent on the rich one. The poor man isn't liberated until he learns he can grow his own carrot. In fact, he's not truly free until he is allowed to grow his own carrot. Yes, there are many things great about the US of A. But don't believe all the hype because what is often told is not truth. The lies they tell are meant to persuade you and to deceive you into giving up your God given humanity to fatten the lives of the greedy. America is lamenting because it has been a liar. Eventually the truth comes out. Always. God will always expose the works of the devil, even if that devil is a nation. Know that no nation will ever be your hope. Let God be true and every man, every nation a liar. Father, we thank you for being our source of everything. May we look to you as the source and not to any man, any government, or any nation. We find our lives and our freedom solely in you. Help us to know the truth of who we are and why we are here, and let us never believe anything otherwise. In your name we pray. Amen.
